#ACEN2019 or “I needed to have more Con….”

What’s going on, Buttonmashers! I’m Mr. Gamer t and though I was only able to attend ACEN (Anime Central) for one day, that didn’t stop them going Plus Ultra throughout the whole weekend.

Those that cringed, I make no apologies. You know where you are.

There were just so many amazing things that happened this year, and please remember that I only attended Saturday..sadly.

One of the biggest things to come out of this was ACEN’s first (and my first) red carpet event. ACEN and I were privileged to see “Made in Abyss: Wandering Twilight”.

Here are a few pics from the event

Unfortunately for me, I had not seen any episode of the anime before I watched the movie and I am full of regrets. This was actually something that Ms. Duval wanted to see and I went in her place.

That was a mistake.

“Oh, some children go down a hole and some bad things happen to them….”

That was the short explanation of the anime to me from Ms. Duval. Needless to say, that did not do the movie justice at all. I was crying for a majority of it and I would love to say that it was tears of joy that I shed.

There is a permission slip long enough to the feels trip I went on.

Check out my Instagram (@sbr_mrgamer) to get a quick look at how I and the voice of Nanachi were after the movie.

But I would be doing you a disservice if I didn’t let you know that the convention for me only got much better from there.

I was even able to get a few interviews of people’s reaction to the hall.

The fact that the game room wasn’t even a room anymore is a huge indication. It was an “Entertainment Hall” and needed to properly describe that room. Games everywhere, tournaments along the wall. And most importantly, well circulated with clean, crisp air conditioning so even though you know that there were people who hadn’t bathed, so didn’t have to have to nostrils bombarded with it.

I was able to have a 1 on 1 interview with both Crispin Freeman, the voice of Winston from Overwatch and Helen McCarthy, the first English speaking author to write a book on anime and just a wonderful person to speak with.

Mr. Freeman was able to give me interesting in what meant to be a fan of anime as a consumer versus a fan of anime as a creator; to improve the art that you love so much.

Ms. McCarthy spoke about how inclusive anime and manga are and how the messages that are portrayed in them need to spread throughout the world.

I wasn’t able to get this on camera but she also spoke about how anyone of any size can cosplay anything that they want and the joy that it gives the creator shouldn’t be taken away by people who might not think that it looks good as it does not affect them.

I am only giving you a brief summary because it is filled with so much more and I love it.

#ACEN2019: Next time I won’t let my hindsight be 20-20. ….get it

Let me know what you thought...you won't...
