Review: Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus

I have always been a fan of the Ratchet and Clank series. Even since I first played the first game that fateful Christmas morning, I was in love with it. There is just a certain allure about a lombax (whatever that really is…) with ridiculous ass weapons just, as the developers put it plainly, blowing shit it up. I like that. I like it a lot. Simple. Cut and print.

Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus is another beautiful, platforming, blast-em-all-to-pieces-with-ridiculous-weapons-almost-as-big-you game. This time around Ratchet and Clank have the unfortunate pleasure of escorting Vendra Prog (evil nexus bitch) to prison. As you can guess, she isn’t having any of that shit and decides, instead, to make your life very difficult.

So, to veteran R&C players, the same song you have heard before.

Insomniac gives you the same humorous story from the other previous game except we have significantly less of that dickwaffle, Copernicus Leslie Qwark. (Yeah, “Leslie”) I am not sorry about that. He is and was useless and I want to thank the people who made Ratchet and Clank because they have successfully made a character/sidekick/villain that I utterly hate. Thank you.

Some aspects of this game can be compared to that of the PS2 legacy. With Into the Nexus, you have the same ridiculously named guns, including the RYNO just like with the PS2 games (i.e. The RYNO 5 from A Crack In Time). I don’t think they will ever get rid of it. You still have the humorous cast of villains and other baddies. And you still have that bitch mitten, Quark.

It was a good game. I didn’t pay much for it. As a hardcore fan of the series, I would have paid full price for it. But there is another side to this story, sadly. The game was disappointingly shorter than games previous. This is one fact that I am going to have to harp on. Sorry…(Only a little)

This is an unfortunate trend in the franchise. After playing all of the previous R&C games (The PS2 library and then on), The games are giving me the same kind of thrill and enjoyment but they are just so much shorter. Like getting an appetizer versus a full meal but still being charged for the full meal. You still want more and expect more but you won’t get more.

I can’t say that I enjoyed this game as much the others, mostly due to its length. It just wasn’t satisfying. Don’t get me wrong, it was a good game like I said but I can’t let that go. I don’t want the developers to think that they can give the same product but downsize it and fill it with pretty visuals and special effects. (I don’t know how many times I have to say things like that… somepony keep count for me) I really wanted to just like the game too…

Even this review is short because there just isn’t much to talk about with this game in my opinion. I would love to be proven wrong. Let me not jab the knife any deeper. I will break it down like this.

Was it a good game? Yes.

Did I enjoy it? Duh. I wouldn’t have answered yes to the first question.

Could it have been better? Yes. In so many places. For example, if I am in the whatever galaxy. I want there to be a bit more of it. More planets, more things to do. The game was so short I couldn’t really get anything from it. Five planets is all you get in this game and one of the planets is the mandatory arena planet so there is really only four planets- the same number of hours it took me to 100% complete the game. That’s not ok.

Would I recommend it? Yes. It is a good game. No game is perfect. (At least not the ones I’ve played)

To sum it all up….like Ratchet’s height, its a sweet but short game.

Let me know what you thought...you won't...
